The organic farm Biolett was certified in 2009 by the Latvian certification body Vides Kvalitāte (Environmental Quality) https://www.videskvalitate.lv/
We operate according to organic farming standards — without the use of chemically synthesized substances. Our farming practices follow natural biological and ecological cycles, ensuring healthy soil and high-quality products.
Our berries, flowers, fruits and herbs are grown without mineral fertilizers and are carefully hand-picked without the use of agricultural machinery.
Our main crop is aronia (Arónia melanocárpa). We also grow elderflower, rosehip, mint, lavender, St. John’s wort, guelder rose, strawberries, grapes, and many other plants.
Biolett produces organic products, including: pasteurized juices, syrups, freeze-dried (lyophilized) berries, fruits and teas, dried herbal teas, and honey.
Our farm is located in Latvia in the Latgale region, in the village of Naujene, near the place where the Daugava River makes a large bend. Here is the ancestral estate “Jāzepa saimniecība” — the courtyard of Jāzep, named after my grandfather. The nature of this area is among the most beautiful in the Baltic countries.
Since 1991, after the dissolution of collective farms in Latvia, our land has not been treated with chemical fertilizers — more than 35 years of naturally pure soil. The area is ecologically clean and surrounded by untouched nature.
This is where we, Helena Konopecka and Günter Sachs created our farm. Locals sometimes call this place “Little Germany” (Klein Deutschland).
Why did we choose organic farming? Because we truly care about the environment and the quality of life. We began thinking deeply about the value of a healthy lifestyle, disease prevention, and the importance of paying attention to what we eat and how we nourish our bodies. Ultimately, a product reflects how it is grown and produced — and this determines its quality and value for human health.
Freeze-drying, also known as lyophilization, is a process of low temperature dehydration — when products are frozen until all moisture is removed under vacuum conditions. As a result, we obtain a product that preserves not only beneficial substances, micronutrients, and antioxidants, but also up to 98% of the vitamins contained in berries, fruits, flowers, and herbs.
From 5 volumes of fresh raw product we obtain 1 volume of freeze-dried one. Properties and qualities of the product are preserved — 100 g of freeze-dried aronia berries contain the same amount of nutrients and vitamins as 500 g of raw ones.
Freeze-dried products can be eaten as a healthy snack, or added to: muesli, porridge, cottage cheese, and smoothies; they are an excellent alternative to preservation, allowing you to enjoy berries and fruits all year round.
We plan to expand our product range. We also intend to build a guesthouse with a sauna, conduct educational programs for children to introduce them to the world of nature, raise Grass carps (Ctenopharyngodon idella), and meat breeds of cattle for grazing in wild pastures, such as Red Angus, as well as Asian (Indian Water) buffalo (Bubalus Arnee) — and this is just some of our projects.
During the season, we operate as a farm shop in Naujene (Latgale, Latvia), and online shop all year-round.
